ChatGPT
OpenAI's GPT-5.5 - assessed, not overhyped.
ChatGPT by OpenAI is one of the best-known AI systems on the market. On this page I assess GPT-5.5 objectively: what the model is, what it is strong at and where I deliberately rely on other models for my projects. A competent market assessment instead of marketing.
ChatGPT and OpenAI in brief
ChatGPT is OpenAI's AI product, backed by the GPT family of models. With the release of ChatGPT, OpenAI made generative AI accessible to a broad public - today it is one of the most-used AI systems worldwide.
The current flagship GPT-5.5 was announced on 23 April 2026 and is regarded as OpenAI's most capable model. It is designed for complex, multi-step tasks - from writing and debugging code through research to working across multiple tools.
Broadly established
ChatGPT is one of the best-known AI systems and made generative AI accessible to a broad public.
Flagship GPT-5.5
GPT-5.5 (announced on 23 April 2026) is OpenAI's most capable model to date, designed for complex, agentic tasks.
Fewer hallucinations
GPT-5.5 noticeably reduces hallucinations - especially in sensitive areas such as law, medicine and finance.
My assessment of GPT-5.5
ChatGPT is not my main tool - for demanding code and reasoning tasks I primarily rely on Claude. Nevertheless, I follow the GPT models closely because they shape the market. This assessment is deliberately kept neutral.
Strong at agentic tasks
GPT-5.5 is designed for multi-step, tool-using workflows - planning, executing and working across multiple tools until a task is finished.
More reliable in sensitive domains
The reduced hallucination rate in areas such as law, medicine and finance is a clear step forward over earlier generations.
My comparison with Claude
For my projects, Claude wins me over with precise instruction following and predictability in software development. GPT-5.5 is a strong model - but I do not use it as my primary tool.
Keeping an eye on the market
I keep track of GPT developments so I can advise clients soundly - regardless of which model is ultimately used.
„GPT-5.5 is a strong model. For my projects, Claude remains the first choice - but assessing the market is part of my work.“
The GPT-5.5 model line
OpenAI offers GPT-5.5 in several variants - from the fast standard version to the most capable tier.

I stay close to the model landscape
OpenAI's model cycle is fast, and older models are consistently retired. GPT-5.2 (Instant, Thinking and Pro) has been unavailable in ChatGPT since 12 June 2026 - existing conversations were migrated to GPT-5.5. GPT-4.5 will be shut down on 27 June 2026 after a 30-day sunset period. For me that means: anyone using AI in production has to actively keep an eye on model availability and retirements - and that applies to every provider.
As of this page: June 2026. Model names and availability can change at short notice.
GDPR-compliant use
For European businesses, GDPR is the central test when choosing an AI provider. OpenAI can be used compliantly - with the right plans and prerequisites.
OpenAI offers EU data residency for business customers: for ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu and the API platform, Europe can be chosen as the processing region, complemented by a signed data processing agreement (DPA). By default, data from business plans and the API is not used for training unless explicitly opted in.

For ChatGPT Enterprise, Edu and the API, Europe can be chosen as the processing region - requests are handled in-region.
Signed DPA
For Enterprise and API workspaces, OpenAI provides a data processing agreement - a basic requirement for business use involving personal data.
No training on business data
Data from business plans and the API is not used for model training by default unless explicitly opted in.
